6 Things You Should Never Do With Your Embroidered Clothes
Share
Hola Chicas!
If you love delicate embroidered pieces as much as I do, you know they can’t be treated like any other clothes. I have several embroidered items that I truly treasure—not just because they look beautiful, but because of how good they make me feel when I wear them.
But I also learned—sometimes the hard way—that if you don’t take good care of them when washing, they lose their shape, color, and that charm I love so much.
That’s why today I want to share with you the 6 most common mistakes people make when washing embroidered clothes—and, most importantly, how to avoid them. These are simple tips, but they’ll help you keep your favorite pieces looking great for much longer.
1. Washing with jeans or clothes with zippers
One of the most common mistakes is putting your embroidered clothes in the washing machine along with jeans or garments that have zippers or big buttons. These can catch the threads and damage the embroidery without you noticing. I recommend washing your embroidered pieces separately or inside a laundry bag made for delicate clothes.
2. Rubbing the embroidery directly
Sometimes, when trying to remove a stain, we rub too hard… and that can loosen or break the threads. I recommend gently cleaning only the affected area using a soft sponge or cloth with light tapping—never rubbing directly on the embroidery.
3. Using hot water
Hot water can shrink the fabric, weaken the embroidered threads, or change the colors. I recommend: always using cold or lukewarm water to protect both the shape and the design of your garment.
4. Using too much detergent or harsh products
Detergents with bleach or strong fragrances can damage the threads and fade the color. I recommend using gentle detergents made for delicate clothes, and using only a small amount. Sometimes, less is more.
5. Drying in direct sunlight or in a dryer
Excessive heat can harden the threads, fade the colors, or shrink the fabric. I recommend always drying in the shade, flat on a towel. Avoid hanging the garment wet by the shoulders to prevent stretching.
6. Squeezing the garment too hard to wring it out
Pressing or squeezing too forcefully can deform the fabric, stretch the embroidery, and leave marks. I recommend removing excess water by gently pressing the garment between two clean towels.
Taking care of our embroidered clothes isn’t complicated—it just requires a little attention and care. I always say that the details we choose to wear deserve to be cared for, because they reflect part of who we are.
I hope these tips help you avoid common mistakes and keep those pieces you love looking beautiful for much longer. If you have any embroidered pieces from my boutique, you know you can always reach out if you need care advice—I’m here for you.
